Big Tent Event

Thank you to everyone in the church who just kept giving during the Big Tent Event. Whether it was putting up or taking down the marquee, making sandwiches, cooking hot meals, night time security, helping with transport, serving coffees, stewarding, setting up / down for various events, tech, music, helping with the holiday club, youth events, women’s event, Days gone by or men’s event you served with a smile! It’s no wonder we are tired! It was a great time and…

The Big Tent Event 29th October to 5th November Hopefully you read the article in last month’s Link explaining that St Denys Church and Lisvane Baptist Church (LBC) are holding a ‘Big Tent Event’ here in Lisvane this coming Autumn. With summer ebbing away and the nights drawing in quite quickly now, it’s rapidly approaching and our excitement is continuing to mount! Since the last article we’ve had quite lots of people asking more about it … so we thought…

If I was to say the word ‘tent’ what would come to mind? Holidays Family Friends Fun Rain Baked Beans Personally I am not a fan of camping or tents, even though I subject myself to a tent every year for a Christian Festival called New Wine. Indeed, I recently stumbled across a most fitting quote that explains my experience of camping through and through. It’s written by an American author by the name of Dave Barry and reads: “It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel…

It’s festival time again. I wonder if it will be sun cream or wellies! It’s wonderful to see so many people from the community, gathering to have some fun and quality family time together. I’m looking forward to having a nose around the different stalls, especially the second hand charity  corner.  My daughters, no doubt along with many of your children, will be making full use of the inflatable slides and ice cream van. As a church we will be…

Did I really make it to heaven?’ To which St Peter replied, ‘Yes my dear, these are the gates to heaven. But you must do one more thing before you can enter.’ The woman was very excited, and asked St Peter what she must do to pass through the gates.…

Do you have heroes in your life? I hope so! I’m not talking about Superman or Batman I’m talking about the real flesh and blood type heroes of this world. I have quite a few … Jim Elliot, a young American missionary who died trying to share his faith with the Auca Indians. You can read about his life in the book ‘Shadow of the Almighty’ written by his wife Elizabeth. Then there’s Betsy and Corrie Ten Boom who helped…

Last month I shared with you some of my favourite words. One of them was ‘grace’ a beautiful word that encapsulates for me what it is to be a Christian. Just the other day I came across the following article that sums up much of what I’m trying to convey about grace. Let me share it with you. Wishing to encourage her young son’s progress on the piano, a mother took the small boy to a Paderewski concert. After they…

Do you have any favourite words? I do … dessert is up there in my top 10! I saw a lovely sign at the Wednesday Coffee morning earlier that made me smile. It said something like, ‘The more you weigh, the harder you are to kidnap, so eat cake.’ Such pearls of wisdom from our friends at the Old School! Also appearing in my top 10 is ‘joy’ (joy is knowing God’s pleasure and nearness regardless of circumstances). Another is…

Making the Most of our Opportunities  This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.  There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.  Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.  Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.  Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn‘t do it.   It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what…
