Pastors Note November 2014

Pastors Note November 2014

By the time you’re reading this, the Youth and Children’s leaders and helpers at Lisvane Baptist Church will have been involved in putting on three great events, right here in Lisvane, during October!

  • New Groove – a music project for year 4 children at Llysfaen Primary School with 5 great songs based on the story of Abraham which the children learn and record, culminating in a concert and CD launch!
  • Our half-term Disney Day for all primary school age children (this time based on the film ‘The Lorax’) with children enjoying games, crafts, songs, film, food and fun.
  • Light Parties – Christian alternative events to Halloween with one event for children and another for young people, filled with fun, games, challenges and featuring the light of Jesus rather than the traditional Halloween focus.

It’s been great to be able to work with our friends at St Denys on some of these events

As a church at the heart of Lisvane we seek to serve this community. We have a dedicated and enthusiastic team in the Children and Youth ministry at Lisvane Baptist, led by Ricardo our Youth and Children’s Pastor, and Amanda our part-time Children’s Worker. A passion for Jesus combined with a passion for children and young people generates a lot of activities!

In addition to our Sunday groups (please see our regular information slot on this page), we seek to reach all children and young people in Lisvane through a variety of clubs:

Wednesday – Fun Factory: an after school club for Llysfaen Primary School pupils in years 3 & 4 (held in the school hall) with lots of games, crafts, stories and Fun!

Thursday – eXplore: for children & young people (current age range 10-14yrs) meets in the Scout Hut, Heol y Delyn from 6.30pm-8pm and offers an exciting range of activities (from craft and cooking to Treasure Hunts and trips) with the ultimate aim of “Equipping Children & Young People for Life’s Adventure”.

Friday – Street Dance: a contemporary dance class for young people in year 7 and above meets in The Old School from 6pm-7pm – a great way to keep active!

Friday – Youth Club (current age range year 9 and above) meets in the Old School from 7pm-9pm providing a safe place for young people to get together over a game of pool/table football/table tennis and an opportunity for team building and developing life skills. We also have pizza & movie nights and bowling trips.

At the heart of all our activities is the desire to give children and young people the opportunity to hear about Jesus, to enable them to make their own choices, developing and equipping them to realise their full potential. Just as Jesus came to serve, so we seek to serve the community of Lisvane.

Matthew 20:28 tells us ‘Just as the son of man did not come to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.’

If you’d like any more information about any of our clubs, please contact Ricardo 07780467886 or Amanda 07557687537 or check out our website at

All the best

Ricardo and Amanda
