Well I hope you have had a good summer. It’s pouring down while I write this so I’m hoping things will pick up for the rest of the month. Can you believe Sue and I are about to start our fourteenth year in Lisvane? The time has gone so quickly and there have been so many good things we have appreciated. It has been a joy meeting so many of you and it has been great seeing some of you become regular worshippers with us. Thankfully the church is growing and in good health so earlier this year we agreed to strengthen the leadership team in appointing an Assistant Minister and Community worker. Jon has already begun his role and Ali starts in September. I am so looking forward to seeing what God will do through these gifted individuals.
Here’s a little taster of who they are.
Jon Linforth – Assistant Minister
Over eight years ago, my wife Melissa and I took a step into the unknown and landed in Lisvane. We were welcomed by Lisvane Baptist Church (LBC) as if we were old friends. The warmth, friendship and kindness given by the church fellowship quite simply blew us away. We have had the joy of serving at LBC during these years in many children and youth groups (I’m sure some will remember Kapow! on Friday evenings) and in various adult activities. During this time, we continued working full time and I attended Regents Theological College part time. Our family has grown and we have been blessed with two very precious little girls. It is a tremendous privilege to be appointed Assistant Pastor at LBC, as it will give me more opportunities to spend time encouraging, helping, supporting, mentoring and caring for those around us. Our passion in life is simply this: to introduce people to our wonderful Saviour, Jesus Christ, and to explore together the plan and purpose He has for all of us, individually and as a community.
Ali Jensen – Community Worker
Hi, I am Ali and am looking forward to joining the team at Lisvane Baptist in September. I have been in church ministry ‘officially’ since I left university…nearly 18 years ago. I have spent many years working with children, youth and schools in Llanedeyrn in East Cardiff. During that time I was also the lead director of a Theatre in Education company called Going Public, who specialise in resources for the SRE curriculum. My roles have seen me take assemblies, lessons, creative workshops, mentoring teenagers both within school and outside, run play therapy sessions with children, run community drama groups and stage shows for the GCSE curriculum.
I have a lovely hubby and a gorgeous 4yr old called Rhys who is about to move into Reception in September. I am an avid reader of literary fiction, love drama and theatre, ‘quality’ coffee and wine. I cannot wait for September to get to know some of the families in Lisvane.
As you see Jon and Ali in the community please make yourself known to them.
All the best
