God is with us
As we continue to go through this anxious and very strange time of lockdown; of self-isolating and social distancing, I’m sure you, like me, are really missing actually being ‘with’ family and friends. I’m so grateful for the wonders of technology (when I know how it works!) that allow us to phone, text, email, face time, video, Zoom….so that we can keep in touch. But it’s not the same as being ‘with’ someone….
However, although we are separated, or socially distant, from friends and family, our Father God is NOT socially distant from us. He is with us always. He goes before us to guide us, he is by our side to comfort us and he is behind us to support us. Amazingly too, His spirit is within us. God never promised that our journey would be easy, or that His presence with us meant a life of convenience or comfort. But He has promised this, over and over in His word: that He would be “with us” in it all, and would never leave us. He alone holds the power to turn around any difficult season or situation we may be facing, and bring great blessing and good through it all…
Here are a few of the many verses in the Bible that remind me of God’s promise to be with us always.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through fire you will not be burned, and the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour…” Isaiah 43:1-3
“The Lord your God is with you; he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you; he will quiet you with his love; he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:20
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor, to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17
God bless and keep you all safe
