In the eyes of the Lord we are all equal…
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Even now after 1000’s of years we struggle with equality in all aspects of our lives, the divide between the rich and poor grows ever greater and if we refer back to the Bible there’s a host of verses instructing us on how to treat people….
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12 29-31
James sums up equality with the following writing
My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,”4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
Peter relays the message in Acts
Then Peter began to speak: “I now realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism 35 but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right"
The Message translation of Hebrews 12 is to the point!
14-17 Work at getting along with each other and with God. Otherwise you’ll never get so much as a glimpse of God.
We are all work in progress and keeping in mind how we behave towards others we can make a difference in this changed world.
