Over the past few weeks I think there has been an increase of home baking as flour, yeast and eggs have been is short supply, has this been a surprising effect of the pandemic?
As a family we have been trying to make bread and starting off with the same ingredients the results have been different each time with our daughters bread turning out better than I could make and when there was no yeast in the supermarket we made our own sour dough starter which made a good loaf of bread.
Jesus had his own thoughts on yeast in Matthew 13:13
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”
From such a small beginning the church, which is symbolised by the yeast in the above parable will start to grow and spread throughout the world, last Sunday was Pentecost and when Peter finished speaking those who believed they were Baptised and in all 3,000 people were added to the Church that day.
Over two thousand years later Jesus is still impacting our lives. When I pick up a piece of bread I remember Jesus acting like the yeast and working throughout our lives.
Just like a sour dough starter has to be fed regularly to keep the yeast active and alive and able to make good bread, we regularly need to plug into the Word to be fed, keeping Jesus active and alive in us, so that we too have the potential to produce good results.
Stay safe and God Bless
