Ask Seek Knock
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7 7-8
Taken from the Sermon on the Mount Jesus is instructing the people around him to communicate with God and then seek answers to their prayers. Prayer is the building block of communicating with God, the more time we spend talking to God the more we understand His needs and wants for us.
We spend time talking with our loved ones and friends about what’s on our heart, we should continue the conversation in prayer with God, taking time too express our needs and wants to God, this draws us into a closer relationship with God.
With an open mind and faith in God look around to see how God is providing answers to our prayers, it could be seeing someone who in the course of a conversation touches on what you have been praying about. Over the course of a few days people reference the same words from scripture or similar situations occur – could this be God seeking you, pointing you in a particular direction?
Perhaps this is the most challenging aspect of Jesus instructions, by stepping out in faith we take steps towards the door and knock, will our prayers be met when the first door that opens or we might have to keep knocking on many doors and when you look back can you see how God has intervened and directed your path?
In verse 8 the commands are followed with promises
For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Praying is more than asking God and then sitting back and waiting, we have to seek and knock as well.
