Hope
I am hoping for lots of things just now, as I expect you are too. I’m hoping to see my family in Bristol soon, to see friends again, to go on holiday in August, even to see my family who live in Switzerland. Of course I can’t be sure of any of these things happening when I’m hoping for them. Hope is an uncertain thing.
There is much about hope in the Bible, but it’s a very different kind of hope.
“ Now faith is being sure of what’s we hope for and certain of what we do not see “. Heb.11. 1.
Biblical hope is certain. We hope for eternal life. Jesus said in his prayer:-
“ Now this is eternal life; that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”. John. 17. 3.
We know God through Jesus,so we already have eternal life. A hope being fulfilled now.
We hope for a place in heaven,a nd wonder what it will be like. Peter tells us:
“ In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never spoil or fade- kept in heaven for you.” Peter 1. 3 & 4.
But we do know we will be with our Lord Jesus and that too is a blessing we have already, although not yet seeing Him face to face..
May we all enjoy His presence with us each day.
Sheila.
